In this 2 hour teaching, Rico will introduce the context of the honor and shame culture that existed in the first century and how it helps us to gain a much better understanding about the motivation for conflict between certain groups within Judaism. We will discover that the Scribes and Pharisees posing questions to Yeshua was part of a social game of challenge and riposte in which honor was at stake. Also discussed is the importance of genealogies as evidence of ascribed honor, the quest for achieving honor through various means, maintaining honor by means of an oath, and the importance of honor status reversal.
By understanding these cultural concepts, we will see how Yeshua came to suffer shame at the hands of mankind in order to restore honor back to the Father and how in Yeshua we not only have forgiveness, but also have an honor status reversal where our shame is removed and we are given honor by the Father.
