There have been many interpretations and predictions associated with John's apocalyptic letter known today as the Book of Revelation. How are we supposed to sort through all of these attempts to understand this mysterious book and find meaning for today? What if we started by attempting to put ourselves into the mindset of the original audience, the seven churches of Asia Minor to whom John addresses his letter.
In this teaching, we will investigate the historical, cultural, and geographic background of each of the seven cities addressed in Revelation. In doing this, we will discover that the message to each church is crafted to the historical situation of the addressed city. We will see that John is dealing with situations of persecution, assimilation, and complacency that are arising in the local congregations and giving encouragement for each group to be overcomers. Furthermore, we will find that each letter is connected to later sections of the Book, revealing that the entire Book is a message to John's audience on how to live in increasingly Godless environments. Finally, we will connect this message to how we can apply it to our lives today; how we too are called to overcome.
This DVD teaching is ~5 hours in length.
