Paul exhorts us to offer up our lives as a living sacrifice. The Messiah died during Passover as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” We have heard these messages frequently, but have we ever stopped to ask how Yeshua, Paul, and other first-century Jews understood the sacrificial system? Do we really understand what the sacrifices meant to the people who actually offered them?
In this 7.5 hour teaching, we will investigate Leviticus 1-5 in its original ancient Near Eastern context. By studying the Hebrew language and cultural context of Leviticus, we will gain a better understanding of the Biblical purpose of the sacrifices. We will discover the function of each of the five major types of sacrifices and the meaning of the six steps of offering a sacrifice. Armed with this knowledge, we will be able to answer the difficult questions about how Yeshua could be a sacrifice, and what that means for us today. We will also see that this ancient text deals with many of the issues we face in society today and how we can apply the principles behind the sacrifices to our lives right now in order to present ourselves as living sacrifices!
